On Saturday 26th August 2000 I went to the Three Counties Showground in Malvern to see the English Symphony Orchestra (referred to as ESO for the remainder of this article) perform an American Celebration.
The evening started at 6.30pm with a performance from the ESO Children's Orchestra which I did not think was that good.
Then at 7.30pm the ESO came on and performed AARON COPLAND's Fanfare For The Common Man.
THE FULL SET LIST:
AARON COPLAND | Fanfare For The Common Man |
JOHN PHILIP SOUSA | Stars & Stripes Forever |
RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN | Oh What a Beautiful Morning Getting to Know You Soliloquy Hello Young Lovers People will say we're in love |
GEORGE GERSHWIN | An American in Paris |
INTERVAL | |
JOHN PHILIP SOUSA | Washington Post Liberty Bell March |
RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN | Some Enchanted Evening Younger Than Springtime What's the use of Wond'ring If I Loved You You'll Never Walk Alone |
LEONARD BERNSTEIN | Symphonic Dances from 'West Side Story' |
Whilst I enjoyed the performance I did not think it was as good as 'The Last Night of the Proms' concert at Berkeley.
